Columbus Short

He is a multitalented young actor, dancer and musician who has already starred in several hit films in his young career. He had a lead role in the hit ensemble drama This Christmas opposite Regina King, Mekhi Phifer and Idris Elba. The film opened at No. 2 during the 2007 holiday season, and maintained that slot for three weeks. More recently, he played a major role in Quarantine, a remake of the Spanish horror movie Rec, and appeared in the drama Cadillac Records. He was also seen in Dominic Sena’s thriller Whiteout, starring Kate Beckinsale.
Short is slated to star alongside Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe) in an untitled action buddy film for Sony Pictures. The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz (Evan Almighty) and be written by David Elliot and Paul Lovett (Four Brothers). Short is also attached as one of the leads in John Singleton’s Tulia, which will mark the much anticipated reunion of Oscar®- winning actress Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton, who first gained critical acclaim together for their 2001 movie Monster’s Ball.
Short’s big break came when he landed the lead role of DJ in Screen Gems’ hit feature Stomp the Yard. The film grossed over $73.4 million dollars worldwide and hit the $25.9 million dollar mark in its opening weekend, domestically, making it the No. 1 film. Other credits include Save the Last Dance 2, Accepted, Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and You Got Served. He has guest-starred on such TV shows as “ER” and “Judging Amy,” and had a recurring role on the critically acclaimed “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.”
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Short knew by the age of 3 that he wanted to be an entertainer. He can remember putting on numerous shows for his family’s enjoyment. If it was imitating his family members, doing an impersonation, dancing or just making people laugh, everyone knew he was going to be something special. By his early teens, Short was featured in a number of different television commercial campaigns, including Mountain Dew, Denny’s, Nike and Pizza Hut.
Two months before graduating high school, Columbus was presented with an opportunity to travel with the famed dance troupe, Stomp! He didn’t think twice about graduating early and joining the touring stage show. After two years and two worldwide tours, Columbus decided to pursue his passion and love for acting.
